Interleague Match – Preston South v Darwen

Well it was a case of dejavu this week with Darwen again starting strong and going into break at 5-4 down. This time though there was a difference – we where playing Preston South.

Don’t get me wrong even the best players can lose over one game, but this was not just one player. Preston have consistently been one of the best teams in the country and even without European Champion Gareth Hibbett, who was away on England duty, they still had World Quarter Finalist Lee Clough along with Regular Lancashire players Craig Day and Jason Hill. The rest of the team was strong too.

But what are names to Darwen, with Bernard Goulding and Jimmy Cummins starting the match with wins for Darwen giving us a 2-0 head start, and with Graham Melia and Ian Harle winning also we was still in the match at half way.

Don’t get me wrong – The lads will tell you how we should have been further up, most notable with Kyle Kaye coming within mm’s of shocking Jason Hill and Captain Matt Bishop over running his position on the 8 ball for a chance to beat Lee Clough.

The second half though was a different story with only Gaz Costello winning and Jimmy Cummins continueing his good form to take his game. Match finished 12-6 to Preston.

Well results did not go our way in the other league matches. Leyland’s draw against Accrington meant they went above Darwen in the table, but Darwen’s next games is against basement boys Chorley. Darwen must concentrate in this game and gain as many points as we can.

Well played all who played.

Darwen Rising Star takes shot at 3 times World Champion

Darwen rising star Bobby Tait took a shot at 3 times World Champion, Gareth “Golden Boy” Potts on Wednesday at Stephen Hendrys Club, Preston.

Bobby looked confident going into the 1 frame match, with Gareth looking nervous at the prospect of meeting Bobby so soon after his World Championship Final defeat.

Watched by his brother Andy, Bobby broke and took balls on the break. An unfortunate kick give Gareth a chance at the table.

Following further exchanges an unfortunate miss handed Gareth a chance which he took despite his nerves.

Andy said “his extensive training before the match brought Bobby close to causing an upset.

Well played Bobby…. Hope you enjoyed the night.
