Darwen Ladies win on the road.

Darwen Ladies achieved their first win against Lancashire CUEPids on Sunday with a 11-3 win at Stephen Hendry’s Club, Preston.
The Ladies, captained by Maxine Goulding, enjoyed the days play and by time we caught up with the team on Sunday night celebrations where in full swing.
Maxine wishes to thank the Lancashire CUEpids team and all the staff at Stephen Hendry’s for making the day so enjoyable and new friendships have been made.
The Ladies next game is back at Stephen Hendry’s on 27th March against last seasons champions and National Semi-Finalists Lancashire Hotpots.
Lancashire Interleague Cup 2011

Yesterday saw Darwen’s Mens team back in action in the Interleague Knockout Cup. We already knew we would be drawn against a big team with last seasons National qualifiers all being seeded.
Our big team was Wigan, who we met last year twice in the knockout, and this would give us a measure of how we have progressed. Our other group member was Leyland who we narrowly beat last year in the league.
Well it was Wigan first and Darwen went off strong going 3-0 straight away, only to be pegged back to 5-4 down at half time. As the game continued lady luck went to visit another table and the game finished 11-7 to Wigan. This was a marked improvement on last year and it was clear to see how much we had progressed.
Second up Leyland and did we start with a bang by going 6-0 up, and hitting half-time 7-2. After the break lady luck had gone for a wonder but when she came back the game finished 12-6.
This meant that Wigan only needed to draw against Leyland to stop us from going to Yarmouth, but against a Leyland side coming of a defeat they accomplished this.
So second place in the group meant we had to battle it out for the reserve spot by way of a 3 man shootout. In the Semi Finals, Accrington was the opponents and wins by Jamie Ridsdale and Ian Harle meant that Cameron Bell did not have to play as Darwen took the Semis 2-0.
In the final then and we played Preston. Cameron tooks his chance to shine, but defeats by Jimmie Cummins and Pete Jennings meant we where second reserve again for the second year running.
Well played to all the lads today and here the stats for the group stages.

Interleague Teams Challenge Match
As you may or may not know but this season we have had a Mens Interleague team taking part in the Lancashire section of the competition. The team has learned a lot from this season and we are looking positively ahead to the new year.
In 2011, we are also introducing a Darwen Ladies Team for playing in the 2011 season. We see this as a progressive step into recruiting more of the fairer sex into the League.
As a starter for this, on Monday 13th December 8pm (Registration Night) at the Engineers, we will be having a Mens -v- Ladies Interleague Teams Challenge match. This will allow the Ladies to gain some needed experience of the InterLeague setup and will be played at Full World Rules, including Timing Rules.
Exciting times for Ladies Pool Players
As announced previously, Darwen Pool Association is committed to recruiting a Darwen Ladies Team for playing in the 2011 season. We see this as a progressive step into recruiting more of the fairer sex into the League.
We are please to announce that the Ladies will be being sponsored by the Engineers Arms, Duckworth Street, Darwen.
The Lancashire Ladies league is played over 2 half’s of 7 frames, 14 frames in total. The games are played using the full World Rules including timing rules.
The committee has appointed Maxine Goulding, from Engineers, as captain and Trish Fogarty, Last Orders, as vice captain.
Any ladies interested in being a part of the team should contact Maxine on 07896 019784 to help with gaining an idea of the interest in the team. Maxine will be trying to arrange training sessions over the coming months to help in building the team.
The first scheduled match will be taking place in December which will be announced shortly.
Darwen team beat Chorley 10-8
Darwen Interleague Team managed to fight through a close match to win 10-8 against fellow new boys to the league Chorley.
Being a new team, Chorley where un-predictable so a strong team was selected. This proved well as at the end of the first half was poised delecately at 5-4 to Chorley. Wins for Bernard Gould, Jimmy Cummins, captain Matt Bishop and Layne Walkden keeping is in it.
The second half started with another loss, but wins for Gaz Costello, Jimmy Cummins and Jamie Ridsdale brought the game back to 7-7. 2nd wins for Captain Matt and Layne along with a win for debutant Victoria captain Paul Otley meant the game was won 10-8.
With the other games in the competition also being tight, it is unlikely this will have made a major impact on our position so the team are looking forward to the Clitheroe match. The team will be looking for “ghosts” to strike Clitheroe for the second time on Halloween’s night, following Darwen’s win against them in the Knockout.
