Singles Knockout Semi-Finals & Finals

Inaugural Womens Knockout Group Stages

Due to the limited numbers, the Ladies entrants have been split into 2 groups. Each group will play a round robin as a best of 3 with the winner of each group progressing to the final.

All matches must be complete 3 legs with the winner of the group being decided by most wins then most legs won.

2011 Annual General Meeting – Minutes

Please find below minutes of the 2011 Annual General Meeting from 12th December 20:30 Start.

Review of 2010/11

Martin West presented report detailing the achievements of the league since the last AGM including

  • Review winners of the competitions.
  • the progress of the Mens & Ladies Interleague teams.
  • Darwen players representation within Lancashire.
  • Recognition of Jamie Ridsdale’s top ranking in the Interleague competition this year, along with Cath Slaters and Trish Fogarty current status in the Ladies.
  • An explanation of the reasoning behind the Media Village league was also included.
  • Announcement of Allan Harle’s (Chairman) and Matt Bishop’s (Secretary) resignation due to family and work commitments.

Layne Walkden was introduced to the meeting after taking over the treasurers job since last AGM. Layne proceded to detail the income and expenditure of the league association. He then further went on to explain the Income and Expenditure of the Interleague teams and how the team are self sufficient in terms of finances.

Committee Formation

As described earlier, Allan Harle has stepped down and proposals where asked for a replacement Chairman. Martin West has been elected as Chairman.

As a result the Vice Chairman position will become available and proposals where made. Craig Rustidge has been elected by the meeting.

Layne Walkden was approved to continue his role as Treasurer.

The Secretary position has also become available and proposals where made. Graham Battersby has been elected by the meeting.

Existing committee members re-elected where Jimmy Bolan, Paul Otley, Maxine Goulding, Trish Fogarty.

Additional committee members elected where Julie Buck, Jordan Battersby, Rob Rice.

Any Other Business

Scotch Doubles – A proposal was made for the introduction of Scotch Doubles, as opposed to the current doubles format. An explanation was made of the format of scotch doubles i.e. Players take alternative shots as opposed to alternative visits. The proposal was rejected by the meeting.

Punch B request to return to the A League – Punch B have asked that, if a position presents itself, can they be re-admitted to the A League. The proposal was accepted by the meeting.

Behavior – The meeting was informed that a number of incidents over the previous year involving Verbal, Physical Racial and Sexist behaviour. They was also informed that rules will be strictly adhered to.

“60 Seconds” Rule – A proposal was made for the introduction of the “60 Second” rule, The proposal has been been maked for review at next AGM to allow for all captains to review over the coming year and give a full opinion next time.

Registrations still open for Team/Singles/Doubles

Team Registration for next season are still open by delivering the sheet, along with your registration fee in the form of a cheque made payable to “Darwen Pool Assoc.”, to Punch Hotel, Chapels byMon 19th December 2011.  The season will commence following the conclusion of the Knockout Tournaments around February 2012. Click here for 2012 League Registration sheets.

2012 Monday Pool League – Registration & AGM

We are inviting premises to enter a team (or teams) in the forthcoming season of the Darwen Pool League. All games are played on Monday nights commencing at 8pm. Registration is open to all public houses and clubs in the BB3 area which covers Darwen andLower Darwen.

Last season we had two very successful leagues with a total of 19 teams playing home and away, our points system keeps the league close.  This keeps the interest in the league to a maximum and also allows for the development of new players

We also had a team knockout competition, with Mens singles, Ladies Singles and doubles knockout competitions being held during the closed season. A  tri-cast competition alternates with doubles competition to be played every 2 seasons.

Winning the DPA “A League”, or the singles knockout competitions, entitles the winners to an entry in the ‘Champion of Champions’ trophy, a national competition to find the best local league team and player. A prize find of around £15,000 is available for this.

Last year was our third playing the World Rules, as defined by the English Pool Association, and this change allowed us to affiliate to the Lancashire County Pool Association. 2010 saw the return of Darwen to the Men’s Interleague competition, in 2011 we are also entered the Ladies Interleague competition.

2010 also saw players from Darwen making a return to theLancashiremen’s and Under 18’s county teams, and this continued in 2011 on both fronts. We also had trialists for the Lancashire Ladies and are hoping to continue the progress with trials for the Over 50’s

The fee per team for the new season is £45.00.

Registration for next season, along with the 2011 AGM,  to be held at Punch Hotel, Chapels on Mon 12th December 2011. Registration will commence at 8pm. Mens Singles, Ladies Singles & Doubles Registration

Following the end of the current team season, we will be running 3 knockout competitions for Mens Singles, Ladies Singles & Doubles.

The competitions will commence Monday 9th January and continue every Monday until completion. You will be required to be available from 8:00pm till 10:30pm on the night.

The Singles competitions is priced at £2.00, with the Doubles competition priced at £3.00 per Team.
Registration will take place at Punch, Chapels on Monday 12th December 2011 8pm to 10pm
