Darwen team beat Chorley 10-8

Darwen Interleague Team managed to fight through a close match to win 10-8 against fellow new boys to the league Chorley.

Being a new team, Chorley where un-predictable so a strong team was selected. This proved well as at the end of the first half was poised delecately at 5-4 to Chorley. Wins for Bernard Gould, Jimmy Cummins, captain Matt Bishop and Layne Walkden keeping is in it.

The second half started with another loss, but wins for Gaz Costello, Jimmy Cummins and Jamie Ridsdale brought the game back to 7-7. 2nd wins for Captain Matt and Layne along with a win for debutant Victoria captain Paul Otley meant the game was won 10-8.

With the other games in the competition also being tight, it is unlikely this will have made a major impact on our position so the team are looking forward to the Clitheroe match. The team will be looking for “ghosts” to strike Clitheroe for the second time on Halloween’s night, following Darwen’s win against them in the Knockout.

Interleague Match – Preston South v Darwen

Well it was a case of dejavu this week with Darwen again starting strong and going into break at 5-4 down. This time though there was a difference – we where playing Preston South.

Don’t get me wrong even the best players can lose over one game, but this was not just one player. Preston have consistently been one of the best teams in the country and even without European Champion Gareth Hibbett, who was away on England duty, they still had World Quarter Finalist Lee Clough along with Regular Lancashire players Craig Day and Jason Hill. The rest of the team was strong too.

But what are names to Darwen, with Bernard Goulding and Jimmy Cummins starting the match with wins for Darwen giving us a 2-0 head start, and with Graham Melia and Ian Harle winning also we was still in the match at half way.

Don’t get me wrong – The lads will tell you how we should have been further up, most notable with Kyle Kaye coming within mm’s of shocking Jason Hill and Captain Matt Bishop over running his position on the 8 ball for a chance to beat Lee Clough.

The second half though was a different story with only Gaz Costello winning and Jimmy Cummins continueing his good form to take his game. Match finished 12-6 to Preston.

Well results did not go our way in the other league matches. Leyland’s draw against Accrington meant they went above Darwen in the table, but Darwen’s next games is against basement boys Chorley. Darwen must concentrate in this game and gain as many points as we can.

Well played all who played.

Interleague Match – Darwen v Lancaster

Well Darwen entered Sundays InterLeague match full of confidence following their first League win last time out over Leyland.

The first half showed that confidence was high by going into the break 5-4 down, but could of easily been ahead. Honourable mentions of the first half go to Gaz Costello and Jamie Ridsdale who beat the Lancashire’s Corless brothers, with Gaz beating last years number 1 player, Wayne and Jamie taking on Ian Corless. Another mention for Bobby Tait who played really well and scored fis first win over James Hurst.

In the second half, Lancasters experience came into play with Darwens only wins being Bernard Goulding, who beat Alan Carradice, and Kyle Kay, who made it a bad day for Ian Corless.

Final Score then Darwen 6 Lancaster 12 but some work to be done with Darwen’s next match being away at Preston, who where the 2010 National Interleague Semi-finalists and and 2009 National Knockout Runners up.

Amongst their players are Gareth Hibbott, who became the 2010 European Pool Champion by beating three times world champion Gareth Potts, and Lee Clough, who reached the semis of the 2007 World Pool Championships. Both players are currently taking part in the 2010 World Championships.

Interleague Match Re-Arranged

Can all Interleague players please note that the next scheduled Interleague Match (Darwen -v- Lancaster) has been re-arranged to the 4th July 2010 to avoid the World Cup Matches.

This means unrestricted World Cup viewing.
